I've been studying tarot actively since 2019 and became professional in 2023. So I'm still very much in the beginning of my tarot journey, especially when compared to the life long work of many tarot professionals.
And so, I have made some mistakes. And I want to share them with you! 1. I wasn't ethical in some of my readings. In the beginning of my career on Etsy, I had a couple love readings available. Many of us are very keen to know their compatibility with potential partner. However, since I've studied tarot ethicality further, I realised that I do not have a permission to look into the energy of a 3rd party and that some of my services were problematic. In this case I removed any such readings from my Etsy and I constantly evaluate "the fine line" of peeking into someone's business without first hand permission. Hence why I don't offer surprise tarot readings either, instead I offer gift cards. 2. Sometimes I come across a querent that I can't read, yet I did read them anyway. In few occasions I've come across a person who's energy maybe clashed with mine and I couldn't find a common ground, the connection wasn't there. In the past, I just tried and tried and forced something out of the reading and the client isn't agreeing with anything I would say, resulting in a disappointing reading and awkward tension. I now know to be straight as soon as I realise this issue and I tell them "I'm really sorry, but I can't read you, nothing is coming through to me". And then I may recommend them to reach out to another tarot reader I know. 3. I used a deck that I'm not 100% familiar with. It's so exciting to get a new deck and start using it! However, decks can have many variations and completely different meanings behind the cards compared to the classics. This caused my readings to run over time as I had to constantly refer to the booklet or I completely lost the track at times. The reading didn't have a natural flow to it, which makes one look a tad unprofessional and may result in distrust and doubt in clients. Hence why I now stick to decks that I know by heart and practice new decks only with friends and family. 4. I didn't give a disclaimer or a warning to clients who wanted to have a friend with them during the reading. Many times, something quite painful can come up within a reading. Often some matters relating to sexuality pop up. Issues in relationships very often can come up. Financial troubles can be highlighted. Home life can become a discussion. In the beginning I thought it was lovely if the client wanted to share this tarot moment with their mum, sister, friend, husband or wife, but gosh, things have gotten awkward! This can then ruin the experience for the client, make them feel shame or it can cause unnecessary tension. This is why I nowadays ALWAYS ask before hand, are you comfortable in sharing potential matters of pain, sexuality or housekeeping with this person you brought with you. 5. I didn't have tissues available. Finally, and somewhat relating to the previous one, past trauma or fear of the future is something I so often discuss with my clients. And there will be tears. And that's ok. I now always have a pack of tissue paper with me. -Enni

As you may know from my past blog posts, one of my main goals is to make my tarot services as accessible as possible for everyone, regardless of financial status and disabilities.
I myself have several hidden disabilities as a neurodivergent individual with ADHD, dyspraxia, tic disorder and mental health conditions. I have recently diagnosed asthma and I now also use a walking stick when out and about, to help me with my dyspraxia and fatigue related balance issues. So, I claim to know a fair bit of the potential obstacles one might have when accessing certain services. I, of course, don't have experience of every single issue, so I aim to educate myself on those awareness matters. Holistic services can boost overall well-being tremendously, especially when combined with western medicine and therapies. I believe everyone should feel welcome and appreciated in holistic spaces and services. I've made sure I have virtual and email based options for those who might not want a live or face-to-face appointment. I make sure I can do live appointments by text as well as video and voice call basis. I also do face-to-face walk-in events in accessible venues. However, I do want to notify that I can't control the lighting, noise or smells in these venues. For example, the beautiful treatment room in The Faerie Shop is used for other holistic therapies as well, including sound bath and aroma therapy, meaning there is a chance the noises and smells can be too strong for someone with sensory problems. The shop has incense, smudge sticks/sage, soaps and candles which all have strong scents and can cause reactions. The shop is playing (usually) calming instrumental music and I also have my own playlist I use during tarot sessions (this can be turned off of course). The lighting is soft and usually natural, through the big windows in the shop. Some windows have sun catchers, which can cause bright beams. The shop itself is located on the ground floor of the Enterprise Shopping Centre, but there is no accessible toilets as they're located on the first floor without a lift. Nearest accessible toilets are at the train station and the Beacon shopping centre. If you feel like you'd like to get to know me first before agreeing to a tarot session with me, feel absolutely comfortable with getting in touch with me first! Sending a message doesn't require you to book in with me. I will reply as soon as I can. Here follows a direct quote from my previous blog post: I also want to make sure, that my services are accessible to everyone despite an individual's financial status. As someone who's had to rely on food banks at one point in my life, I know very well how much money £30 can be. And those also were the times when I needed advice, guidance and support the most when it came to emotional, spiritual and practical matters. Or just needed to talk to somebody. So, with this post, I ask you to get in touch with me if you feel like you could benefit from a tarot reading, but you feel like you can't afford it right now. I'm very happy to do discounts on Etsy, accept a small donation or even do a tarot reading for free for those who need it the most. Just send me a message on Facebook, on Instagram, on Etsy or through my email [email protected]. In any case, if you do have any concerns or questions about the services I provide, please do get in touch. I am very happy to discuss tarot and practicalities when it comes to my services. I aim to be as flexible and accessible as possible. Kindly, Enni Physical and mental health as a entrepreneur. At the end of the year, I had amazing successes in my entrepreneurship and was really seizing the moment! I created a huge amount of art, participated in numerous fairs and markets with my art and tarot readings. I wrote and published a short fairy tale, studied grief and bereavement counselling and counselling skills, found the dream rental space for my tarot work at the Faerie Shop, started volunteering at a hospice and worked a day job at the same time. The year changed, and I was diagnosed with asthma, followed immediately by my third bout of pneumonia within a year. Psychological anxiety hit as soon as I allowed myself to stop, and my other neurological problems started to flare up again, including my Tourette's symptoms going out of control. Now I've rested and my lungs are being treated. I have appointments with a psychiatrist and a neurologist booked! Back to work, but a bit slower for now, at least until April! A reminder to everyone else, be gentle with yourself and give yourself time. Rest and plan well for busy periods, naps are a good thing to schedule! Take care of your mind and body. However, here's some personal tarot goals for this year: ✨ Finish the on going counselling courses ✨ Learn to create engaging social media content ✨ Make the monthly walk-in event successful ✨ Host a workshop or tarot club ✨ Participate at summer festivals and events ✨ Volunteer and do charity tarot readings ✨ Organise a meetup for the Tarot East Sussex - Network group ✨ Participate in winter festivals and events I'm really looking forward to this new year and ready to grow! -Enni |
