Tales of Song and Silence - Told through Roots and Stars
Tales of Song and Silence is a folkloric tarot deck that blends imagination, intuition, dreams and ancestral memory. It is a project born from a deep love of stories—those passed down, half-forgotten, and newly dreamed—and from years of personal tarot practice rooted in gentleness, wonder, and care.
This deck was born from the meeting place of my roots in northern Finland and the inner landscapes I’ve travelled through years of tarot reading. It is inspired by the stillness of snowy forests, the glimmer of northern lights, and the quiet teachings of animals, myths, and dreams. Here, transformation comes softly—through love, grief, memory, and mystery.
Each card in this deck tells a story. A woman dances under the moonlight, longing to free the horse-shaped man she loves. A four-armed forest witch gathers hidden truths. A fox races across the sky, leaving auroras in its wake. These archetypes are rooted in the familiar structure of tarot, yet they speak with their own voice—earthy, emotional, and a little wild.
The deck explores themes of change, healing, and the unseen forces that shape our lives. It is an offering for those who are drawn to quiet wisdom, to the power of story, and to the subtle magic that lives in nature and the human heart.
I'm still very much in the sketching stage of this deck, but I have many stories and hundreds of characters brewing in my mind, which I aim to include in this deck. Rooted in folkloric aesthetics, the deck features earthy tones, organic lines, and recurring motifs of animals, stars, and forest spirits. Visually, the cards evoke the feeling of storybooks passed down through generations—filled with quiet magic, raw emotion, and wild wisdom. The palette is muted and moody, designed to evoke both silence and depth—like a story whispered in the dark.
